The majority of the kits have arrived here at BMOG headquarters, which I now wish wasn’t on the second floor.

There’s still one more box set to arrive, and some paperwork, and we can start processing out rewards packages. I’d like to take this time to remind everyone that you have the option of picking up your rewards in-person at Botcon 2014, but you need to let us know ahead of time by sending us a message through Kickstarter. We’re also going to be debuting a special “Pirate Team” colorway at Botcon:

Things will be a little slower going than we expected. You may have noticed the seam that runs along toy parts and model kits. This is formed where the two halves of an injection mold meet, and extra plastic that forms along that seam is called mold flash. Because of how the mold is constructed, the peg-hole on the bear’s front shoulder joint is a seam and some of the kits have mold flash there that can make the joint too tight.

It is an easy fix, the flash trims off with a single twist of an x-acto, but we’re going to have to open up each kit, correct it, and re-bag.

We just put in our order with the factory and they will be going into production in early May. We currently expect the product on-hand come June, at which Kickstarter backers will see their rewards start shipping out.

As you may/may not know, the $300 and above reward tiers for supporting BMOG through Kickstarter include a custom-made BMOG accessory made based on your sketch or description, which will be 3d printed and sent to you with your order.

Jim Sorenson, one of our high-tier backers, agreed to let us outline the development of his part early so everyone can see what is involved.

He gave us the following description:

“An alternate Ursenal head sounds cool. Perhaps a dragon head, something with a serpentine neck and mighty jaws and horns.”

From that, Greg and I developed a number of quick sketches, seen above. We sent those to Jim, who selected design #2 as the one he wanted to go with.

Next stop? 3d development!

Meet Featherblight, the second figure in the standard BMOG figure size, currently shared with Ursenal. Featherblight will be part of the first stretch goal in the Kickstarter and his design is currently being fully realized in CAD.

The Kickstarter campaign to fund the creation of the first two Bio-Mechanical Ordnance Gestalts is now up and running.

Remember the robot toys of the 80s? World-spanning battles of good and evil across the living room floor? Shape-changing and modular warriors of all shapes and sizes? So do we, and those memories inspired BMOG, a building toy system that lets you make wild, robotic animal characters where each component is an action figure accessory.
